To demonstrate wealth and power, Frederick II started his largest construction project immediately after the Seven Years' War (1763). The impressive palace, a three-winged complex with side extensions, is 240 m long and contains 300 rooms, two vestibules, several festival halls as well as a palace theatre, which is considered Germany's most beautiful rococo theatre.
Inside the palace you can admire all the splendour of the Friderician rococo at every turn. Special highlights are the two-storey marble hall and the grotto hall on the ground floor, whose walls are decorated with shells, minerals and corals.
