Potsdam City Tour - Stop 4 New Garden
Start or interrupt your Best of Potsdam Tour by City Circle at the stop New Garden.
The New Garden is a 102.5 hectare park area in the north of Potsdam. Its extraordinary romantic location on the Lake Heiliger See and the Lenné design make the park particularly attractive. Frederick William II had the garden landscaped from 1787 as a counterpart to the baroque Sanssouci Park.
Admire a whole series of architectural gems in the park, such as the Orangery, the Dutch Etablissements, the Shingle House and the Gothic Library. The most striking building in the New Garden is the Marble Palace in early classicist style. It is picturesquely situated directly at the water.
You can also discover a curiosity - a pyramid as a precursor of an icebox. The food was stored here on ice, which was taken from the lake. A great method, but only applicable in winter.
