Potsdam City Tour - Stop 16 Mercure Hotel/Boat Station
Start or interrupt your Best of Potsdam Tour at Stop Mercure Hotel/Boat Station.
The hotel with its 17 floors is a typical GDR prefabricated building from 1969. Built as the first hotel tower of the GDR, it was to be the "socialist city crown" according to the will of the party leadership.
In the course of the redesign of Potsdam's city centre according to historical models, the new State Parliament building with the baroque façade of the former city palace was built in the immediate vicinity and so voices are still being raised today calling for the demolition of this prefabricated high-rise building.
Tip: Interrupt your city tour for a boat trip on the River Havel. Proceed to the boat station of the White Fleet shipping company behind the hotel, go on board and discover the most beautiful sights and palaces from a different perspective.
