Potsdam City Tour - Stop 6 Colony Alexandrovka
Start or interrupt your Best of Potsdam by City Circle at Stop Colony Alexandrowka.
The Colony Alexandrovka, a curiosity in the north of Potsdam, was built in 1826-1827 for the last twelve singers of a Russian soldier choir who arrived in Potsdam during the Napoleonic Russian War campaign. The log houses were built in a typical Russian style and richly decorated with woodcarvings. The entire gardens were designed by Lenné in the shape of a St. Andrew's cross and should offer the singers a special atmosphere for music and leisure. Today the ensemble is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In house no. 2 you can visit a small museum. Take a look at the kitchen and living room of this log house to get an idea of the simple living conditions of that time. In house no. 1 there is a Russian restaurant where you can taste Russian specialities such as pelmeni, borscht and kvass.
